2015… Wow!

Posted by erinlausten on February 2, 2015

Here we are in the second month of 2015 and I am amazed at how quickly it is going already.

When reminiscing on New Year’s Eve with my extended family I realized this year marks FIVE years since I published my first novel Unexpected! I can’t believe it. I feel like I’ve only just started this journey but looking back at the books since Unexpected I know it’s been a heck of a ride. And it is FAR from over.

To celebrate I am offering Unforeseen (Book 2 – Viator Legacy) for $0.99 from February 2nd until March 17th on Smashwords and Amazon! I love Grace and would like more folks to meet her. Lucius isn’t too bad either.

Let’s get ready for more adventures with Deadbeat coming out very soon and Unrepentant (Book 3 – Viator Legacy) coming out later this year. This wild ride just keeps on going.

Happy 2015 Everyone!

To Reach the Top

Posted by erinlausten on July 1, 2011

I had the pleasure of working with a student today that did more to teach me then I could ever do to teach him. There are moments in life when you know for a fact that the experience you just had was more profound, more inspiring than the majority of life’s events. In just one hour I walked away knowing that this one man will touch the lives of people and bring about positive change and inspiration unlike any other. And he is going to be a teacher. The educational system is in good hands with this man.

And it brings me to this thought. It is easy to get hung up on the details, the negativity, the insecurities and the challenges. They stand there in front of you like a giant a mountain filled with impenetrable forests, cliffs, dangerous animals, and impossible heights. You can look at that mountain and turn around, positive that there is no way to scale it. You can decide to walk around, taking the easier route that will take forever to travel and provide no challenge. But in the end, you never reach the top. It is a pinnacle you will never reach.

Or you can look at that mountain and tell yourself that nothing will beat you. You will face it with determination and perseverance. And each challenge that you conquer will take you just a little bit closer to the top.

To do this you have to know in your heart that what waits at the top is worth it. The guiding hand that helps you over those rocks has to shine within you every step of the way. The reason you climb has to be more powerful than anything that can get in your way. That is the road that can defeat adversity. The principles you hold in your heart the strength that guides your steps. And when you finally reach the top, it is the principles and the determination that enveloped you that made the journey worth it. You find that the success came not from acquiring what you aimed for at the top, but from the challenges and fight that brought you to the top. It is the having of dreams that matters, not the dream itself.

I am ready to conquer that mountain. Are you ready to scale it with me?

It’s getting hot

Posted by erinlausten on June 20, 2011

Summer here in the desert southwest is a time for hunkering down and surviving. As we go through our days hiding out in the AC we do everything we can just to make it through the next five months until that first cool breeze tickles the trees. As we go through each day I am getting closer to saying those evil words “Will it ever end?”

Of course it will. And as I trudge through the 110 degree heat and burn my hands on molten steering wheels I still acknowledge that I don’t really want to live anywhere else. I’m a desert rat through and through. Give me the threat of second degree burns over freezing temperatures any day. But the Summer still sucks and we just have to get through it. Then it will be Fall and Winter and that just can’t be beat here in the desert. At least we don’t have to shovel snow just to get to work.

And as usual, I am going to bring this around to a Big Concept of the day. Sometimes you have to slog through the tough times to get to where you are going. And as long as you keep your head down and keep on truckin eventually you will reach that point when things seem lighter and the sun doesn’t burn holes in your retinas.

No one can stop the clock except for you.

If you have a dream that shines like a sweet summer breeze after a frigid Winter or in my case like a cool breeze after a sweltering Summer then keep your head down and focus on making it through to the end. One day at a time. Reach for those minor victories that can splash over you like a quick jump in a pool or a cup of hot chocolate during a blizzard.

Eventually that hard work will pay off and you will look up and realize the tree is moving with the breeze of success and you will wonder how it is you got there. Well, you didn’t stop when the times were tough and let the clock run. But enjoy it while it’s there because the tough times will come again, only this time you will know for certain there is relief in sight.
